Design and develop a responsive website to coincide with the opening of a brand new shopping centre. The website should reflect the new brand and promote the launch of the centre.

As one of the biggest retail developments in the south of England, the website should serve as an informative and comprehensive resource for customers.


The client wanted the website to complement their new branding - we were given their new logo as a starting point and this helped as develop the look and feel of the website. We then came up with several homepage options – all of which were designed to provide easy access to key information, look good and of course be responsive!

When the design was approved we set to work. The site was built using HTML5, CSS3 and media queries – the new standard for innovative web design. Once the core of the website was built, we put our code through extensive testing in our device lab to ensure it looked (and worked) great on all devices. Name a device or operating system – we have it!

Once we’d tested the site, we then started adding in the content. Alongside the other agencies working on the project to ensure a consistent message, we sourced images and text. It was important to emphasise the launch day. We achieved this with a countdown clock and key information about the event. We added great features like social media feeds, an e-newsletter sign up box and a slider to allow multiple messages to be communicated.

The website went live on the 15 May 2013 with an impressive 1,592 visits in the first afternoon. When the centre opened on the 23 May, there was an amazing 23,678 visits – with 53% of those visits coming from a mobile device.

Needless to say, the website has been a great success with consistently high mobile visits. We believe that responsive websites are here to stay – and the stats seem to agree!
